Pain Relief // Soma
Soma is a muscle relaxant used to provide relief to people with muscle injuries or conditions causing
pain. Soma should be used along with rest and physical therapy.
How Soma Is Used
The right dosage varies from patient to patient and from condition to condition,
so you should take Soma exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Don't
take more than 4 tablets or 1,400 mg per day.
How Soma Works
The active ingredient in Soma, carisoprodol, blocks nerve impulses -- sensations of pain --
on their way to your brain.
Who Should and Shouldn't Use Soma
Soma is approved for patients over 12 years of age.
Certain drugs and medical conditions may make it dangerous for you to take Soma, or may
require that you be monitored by a doctor while you are taking Soma. Tell your doctor about any
conditions you have and any drugs you may be taking before you start Soma treatment. Tell your
doctor especially if you have kidney disease, liver disease, an ulcer in your stomach or
intestines, a bleeding or blood-clotting disorder, urinary retention, an enlarged prostate,
hypothyroidism, a head injury, or Addison's disease.
Also tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Other Important Notes
If you experience side effects from Soma use, the ones you will most likely encounter are
not severe and include drowsiness or dizziness, headache, depression, blurred vision or small pupils,
difficulties sleeping, faint ringing in the ears, and upset stomach. These should go away with use.
For a list of all possible side effects consult your doctor or a Soma product leaflet.
